Is it funcitonal?

Yes! All Sarah and Pessia’s pottery is completely functional and is food, dishwasher and microwave safe.

HOw do you get those crystals?

Crystalline glazes are amazing. The glaze contains Silica and Zinc, these combine at 2320* F and spontaneously form crystals, just like a geode forms crystals when the molten minerals cool. These crystals nucleate and grow in the kiln when held for long periods of time. Rings can form when held at slightly different temperatures. I only use small amounts of metal colorants like Iron, Titanium, Copper, and Cobalt to color my glazes.

In nature these crystals are called Willemite.

If i buy one mug or bowl can you make me more to match?

Usually, I would be happy to make you something similar to what you’ve got. Each piece is unique and can never be matched perfectly, but I’m certainly willing to try.

Can you make me something specific? Commisions?

I’d certainly like to try. I have worked with Michelin Star cooks to create place settings and Bread bakers to create incredibly large bowls and oven roasters. Please feel free to ask me about your specifics and we’ll see if we are a good team.

Were are you located?

I work partially out of my home in Encinitas CA, throwing and making all the original art ceramics here, then I bisque it and bring it to my studio in San Marcos where I do all my glazing and firings. If you would like to pick up something specific you can ask about local pick up in Encinitas or San Marcos by appointment.
